Tuberculosis or TB, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis is one of the diseases with a high fatality rate. The disease spreads when an infected person spits, coughs or sneezes, dispersing the bacteria in the air. Due to the slow growth pattern and multi-drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the disease presents a major challenge in terms of treatment and quick diagnostic techniques. Tuberculosis- Whole Genome Sequencing is a high sensitivity technique that covers 18 antibiotic resistance profiles with a TAT of 12 days. It aids in detecting co-infection and mixed infection as well as helps in strain identification. It helps in the early detection of infection for better individualized treatment with correct antibiotics at the right time. The TB-WGS test is suggested to individuals with symptoms like – cough for more than three weeks, chills, fever, night sweats, loss of appetite, weakness, weight loss.
